What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a holistic treatment system developed by American doctor Andrew Taylor Still, born in 1828.
His research into how the body works led him to believe that all parts of the body were interrelated. If we are to treat an illness, therefore, we must take a comprehensive approach and treat the whole person - physical, mental and emotional. Only then can we address the cause of the condition.
At the Littlejohn Centre we believe treatment, and healthcare in general, is a partnership between patient, practitioner and nature. Osteopaths (and other practitioners) who have their practice at the Littlejohn Centre don't simply treat people, they want to know what you expect from treatment. The approach is gentle and encourages you to understand the factors or events which have contributed to your condition - whether they be physical, mental, emotional, dietary or from some other cause.
Actual Osteopathic treatment consists of movements which gently manipulate and stimulate muscles, ligaments and bones. However, overall treatment consists of much more than physical manipulation. Advice and guidance play a vital role because exercise, rest, posture and emotional well being are central to recovery and on-going health.
If you require any further information regarding treatment, all practitioners may be contacted either directly or through reception and are available to answer any queries or concerns. If you would like to make an appointment, please telephone or call in to the centre.
