How can Yoga help me?

Sarah O'Connor Yoga teacher highlights the benefits of yoga.

It is very important to know that you are not required to be the vision of flexibility to join a class! Do acknowledge your body’s limitations and always honour them during practice. This means not pushing beyond your capabilities, and stepping back when you are unsure. Listen to your body first, and to the teacher second! Ask the teacher if you have any questions. Yoga teaches you to be aware of your body. It helps you in this way to listen to the subtle messages your body sends you. Body awareness can help you in your day-to-day life with such issues as posture and weight and fitness. Weight loss can happen if you are using your yoga practice in conjunction with a healthy diet. Yoga can also help you with your general mood and outlook on life. Meditators and regular practitioners of yoga find they are less likely to be depressed. You will learn to listen to your body and notice the change in your outlook brought on by regular exercise and relaxation, with proper breathing. This does not have to be prohibitive, but a good balance for your busy lifestyle. Pain does not mean gain!
