Why Littlejohn Centre?
General Treatment
What is osteopathy? Osteopathy is a holistic system of treatment developed in the late 1800s. At the Littlejohn Centre, it forms the core of a comprehensive resource for individual and family health.
Treatment is gentle, adaptable and tailored to each pa/ent, which means people of any age or condition can benefit. Osteopathy views health as the result of many influences: who we are, the families we come from, and the experiences that have shaped us, including past illnesses, trauma or treatment. This approach helps support the body’s natural capacity to restore balance.
Family Treatment
The Littlejohn Centre offers affordable family treatments, recognising that a child’s environment is shaped by parents and siblings. Families are often treated together, considering both the group dynamic and each individual’s needs. Children are free to play and move without pressure, while we work to build trust and create a safe, supportive space. Our osteopaths provide a place to discuss anything you need — vaccinations, colds, flu, aches, pains and more. Often, treating a stressed or unwell parent or sibling can benefit a child even more than direct treatment.
Newborn and children
The Littlejohn Centre offers osteopathic treatment for all ages, including babies from just a few days old.
Each session begins with a discussion with parents about birth history, antibiotics, teething, vaccinations and breastfeeding. Children are assessed with respect for their emotional and physical development. Whatever their condition — behavioural issues, autism, asthma or physical disabilities — practitioners adapt their approach gently, even treating them while they play on the floor. Treatment focuses on soft articulation work, introduced through calm, non-intrusive movements designed to keep the child comfortable throughout.
About us…
The Littlejohn centre opened in 2000 after a donation from John Wernham in 1999 and before this it operated as the Irish college of osteopathic medicine since 1994. John Wernham born in 1907 and passed away 2007, he was a student of Littlejohn. Littlejohn is born in 1865 inGlasgow and deceased in 1947, he had a strong connection with Ireland as he study osteopathy under the founder of osteopathy in Chicago college and British school of osteopathy where John Wernham was taught. The aim of the centre is to provide a comprehensive resource for individuals and family health using classical Osteopathic principles. At the Littlejohn centre, we believe treatment and healthcare in general, is a partnership between patient, practitioner and nature.
Thanks to Chris Campbell who was a student of John Wernham and kept the principles of classical osteopathy in the centre and through the education of the osteopath. We are committed to treating patients who cannot aCord it, due to their life circumstances. We strongly believe that everyone should have access to the highest quality of Osteopathic treatment and to provide education to our Osteopathy students. We are dedicated to help you and your family to better health using the holistic principles of classical osteopathy. The ethos of the Littlejohn centre is to provide gentle care that respect all patients.
